12 Days of Christmas Tour
Highlights: Days 1-4
We start the Christmas Markets Tour in dazzling Budapest, and by day we wander the banks of the scenic Danube. to see Buda Castle, the Hungarian Parliament and the elegant Andrassy Avenue.
We stay five nights in a 5-star hotel in Budapest right in the middle of the old town, where we mix cultural outings to the big sites and stop to light a few candles and send up a prayer at Matthias Church.
We will have the opportunity to visit a couturier and design tailor-made gloves in the softest leather to fit us exactly and remind us always of our Hungarian experience. Or we could have our own unique designed O-Bag from the famous Hungarian handbag maker.
We will meander through the narrow cobbled streets which feature quaint shops, one off boutiques and unique cafes, buying things, trying things or just getting inspired by the creativity.
At dusk when the fairy lights start to come on, we will visit the magical Christmas Markets for an hour or two of festive wonder before getting dressed for dinner. We will meet in the lobby and sink into a sofa whilst sipping a glass or two of local champagne and sharing stories with friends before heading to a great restaurant for dinner.
There will be time to visit an exclusive spa, joining the local ladies for a few hours of indulgence in this timeless Hungarian tradition. The joy of staying centrally is that you can always return to the hotel for a little R&R!
After four days in Budapest the Christmas Markets Tour moves to the stylish city of Vienna where we again stay in an opulent 5 star central city hotel and have a chance to drive along the famed Ringstrasse, Vienna’s main boulevard lined with palaces, parks and monuments.
We will explore the Habsburgs’ Schönbrunn Palace, St Stephen’s Cathedral (more candles will need to be lit) and visit the famous Spanish Riding School and pop into church and maybe even hear the famous Vienna Boys choir practising.
Tour Highlights: Days 5-8
We will enjoy truly world-class museums, and cultural events.
At this time of the year, concerns are held in the spectacular churches and buildings and we will find a concert of Mozart and Strauss classics. Amazing harmonic Christmas carols and choirs will be the backdrop to our tour.
We will, of course, frequently drop into the famous Viennese coffee houses and try the decadent pastries, and Sachertorte in art nouveau splendour. The waiters will be charming, the other local clientele will be fascinating, and the coffee will be just right.
The Christmas Markets Tour 2016 stops over in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Cesky Krumlov. This tiny city is one of Bohemia most picturesque towns, made up of stunning Renaissance buildings. After the sophistication of the big cities we can now explore the narrow and romantic streets of the renaissance Old Town.
We spend one very peaceful night at this beautiful village at the old monastery Hotel Ruze. At Tasteful Tours we love a monastery that serves drinks!
The next day we continue on enjoying the beautiful countryside and villages on your first class train journeys or private cars to Prague – the `Golden City`
We spend 3 fantastic nights at the best location in town and walking distance to the Old town square, if you are ‘over’ the markets by now you could just look out. That won’t happen – you will be wowed!
Tour Highlights: Days 9-12
Prague is situated on the banks of the Vltava River. This glowing city, with its cobblestone streets and picturesque squares, has one of Europe’s best preserved medieval city centres, and despite decades of Communism, Prague has managed to keep its Old Town-charm perfectly intact. We do an in-depth and enlightening city tour to learn about the history of the old streets of the Bohemian kings and the largest royal Palace in Europe: Prague Castle.
We’ll head to the celebrated Charles Bridge, with its fairy-tale views of the Prague skyline here you can truly feel the pulse of the old town. Of course you can pose in a pensive isolated manner on the famous bridge and we will capture the moment.
This is another great place to get your Christmas shopping done if there is any room left in your luggage.
After 12 nights it’s time to say goodbye to the great cities in the heart of Europe. On the way home you may choose to spoil yourselves a little more in the new city of paradise: Dubai.
We have an optional 3-day tour extension at the opulent Hotel Versace to complete your exotic adventure. You can choose to relax and get a tan and sip on a mint tea, or to keep shopping at the souks. We know where to find gold jewellery or a lovely Arabian perfume for yourself or for last minute gifts. The tour includes a river cruise and a desert safari.
